Broken Faith – released!

Broken Faith- Inside the Word of Faith Fellowship, One of America’s Most Dangerous Cults

“Broken Faith- Inside the Word of Faith Fellowship, One of America’s Most Dangerous Cults” by Mitch Weiss and Holbrook Mohr

Finally! The release date of “Broken Faith” is here. My excitement leading up to this day has grown steadily since learning about the book. I quickly read my copy. The writing of Mitch Weiss and Holbrook Mohr captures the intense emotions of members caught in a controlling religious Orwellian time warp.

“Broken Faith” fills in the gaps for storylines I knew and raises some new questions. Details of the Cooper’s journey as the main arc of the book were revealing and compelling. The Cooper’s path was similar to several other WOFF families. The common themes of initial spiritual zeal followed by self-doubt and inner confliction are easily found in many untold ongoing member/ex-member profiles. The occasional humorous anecdote helped balance out the stark and shocking truths in this painful account. The exhaustive research reflected by the extensive source listings drew my interest almost as much as any other part of this book.

Whether your level of prior knowledge about WOFF is small or great, in “Broken Faith” you will find something you did not know. I encourage you to read this book with a “prove it” attitude.

Go ahead- put on your investigator hat and check and recheck the author’s story. You will find yourself aghast at the details revealed. Who is the real “wolf-in-sheep’s clothing?”

Can the leader and her inner circle really be as harmful as ex-members say? After all, the members appear so neat and clean. The children smile all the time and are so polite!

Tell yourself – “No. I need proof.”

And you will find proof in “Broken Faith.”

From the outset, the authors take on a daunting task. What new information can be shared about a group that was formed in 1979 and has an extensive website and a radio program? Hasn’t Jane Whaley declared victory in every “attack” launched against them?

Weiss and Mohr provide many revealing accounts of life inside. Again, the resource list is impressive and cannot be easily dismissed. Background information on several of the leadership came from their own words on the WOFF radio show.  Court records, SBI Investigative report, personal deposition, a secret recording of the group’s leader and many personal interviews of ex-members were among the sources used by Weiss and Mohr.

As with other books by Mitch Weiss- this volume is ultimately about a war. The war described in “Broken Faith” is not first for physical land and resources, but for control of the souls of those who give up their time, money and life-relationships in support of the group’s leader.

Jane Whaley may not own the businesses which employ most of her members, however, I contend she owns the souls of those who own the businesses. There-in is her power and ability to satisfy her wants and desires.

Many members in the WOFF army cannot admit who they truly are as they live under Jane’s dark influence. This understanding does not enter their consciousness. Jane Whaley is their “minister of God” referred to as their “mom” or “grandma.”  Her ongoing exercise of power and poison depends on a coordinated deception on many levels. Her chosen leadership inside and supporters outside merge their efforts knowingly to a woman orchestrating a pseudo-religious based emotionally destructve and physically harmful ruse year after year.

The response to date from Word of Faith Fellowship has been all the worn out denials. What did I expect, really? WOFF has categorically denied many incidents included in Broken Faith, in particularly the ones alleging abuse of any kind. This is their standard process every time the same or new information surfaces. The Daily Courier carried the WOFF reply and the response on their radio show is certain.

Read “Broken Faith”. Reread and then judge for yourself. Is this group safe? Would you join, today?

  1. John, I have recently escaped a cult called House of prayer Christian church out of Hinesville, Georgia. They are very similar to WOFF! it’s terrible what we’ve dealt with.
I found Broken Faith and your book Locked In to be very helpful in my recovery, thank you.

  2. Adam,

I am glad you were helped. Reading accounts of survivvors of other groups has helped me. Thank you for commenting.

  3. John,

I had never heard of WOFF before I began to read Broken Faith. Wow, really tragic what has been going down there. So glad to see people being set free from there and realizing God is not about yelling and beatings:

    Matthew 24:48-50

48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know 51 and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites.

I pray more people can be set free from the false (destructive) teachings of Jane Waley. She is building a kingdom for herself not God. Also, Shana has such a beautiful family and one day I hope the youngest son realizes that and his and his mom’s relationship can be restored.

    All the Best,
